COMMERCIAL: A firm part-owned by Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust says it is offering faster turnaround breast cancer screening after developing new gene testing methods.

NewGene is part owned by the trust and Newcastle University. The company said it had developed an advanced gene sequencing process to successfully identify all mutations in the coding regions of two genes associated with breast cancer - BRCA1 and BRCA2. The new method means hereditary breast cancer test turnaround times can be cut to as low as four weeks, the company said.
