FINANCE: Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust is £4.2m behind its financial plan at the halfway stage of 2012-13.

NHS Midlands and East board papers said the Harlow trust “has continued to face pressures from high agency spend, inability to reduce capacity and unplanned outsourcing requirements”.

The papers added: “These pressures have limited the effectiveness of its savings plan, and the trust is strengthening its spending controls.

“The trust has seen recent improvement in medical staff costs and is making progress in reducing spend on agency staff. Work continues to make further progress on implementing their recovery plan.”
