WORKFORCE: Princess Alexandra Hospital will cut 250 staff posts and 60 beds to meet a £17m savings target in the current financial year.
The trusts board papers include an update of the “transformation plan” outlining schemes to save £17m, or 10 per cent of the trusts turnover, in the 2011-12 financial year. It also said: “The trust is predicted to need to save a further £12m in 2012-13 and £10m in 2013-14.”
The document claimed that the trust will be able to “retain a presence on all current sites”.
It said: “Increased efficiencies in the way the trust operates will enable the same patient demand to be met with fewer resources. This means that there will be an overall reduction in the size of the workforce of approximately 250 posts and a need for approximately 60 fewer hospital beds.”
It said the workforce reduction will “concentrate on non-clinical roles”, with much of it achieved through “vacancy control, redeployment and fewer agency staff”. It said a voluntary redundency scheme had been launched.
