PERFORMANCE: A&E performance at Princess Alexandra Hospital is causing concern to the PCT cluster.

A report to the board detailed how the trust had improved performance up to October last year but had then struggled, despite similar numbers attending to previous years. Patients have, however, become more complex. It noted that two wards had been closed and nursing recruitment reduced at that time.

The report detailed issues around A&E - including poor management, quickly-implemented reforms, and variability in the ‘front door’ approach depending on what staff were on duty - and actions taken to improve. Although there had been an improvement, this was not fast enough, it said.
