FINANCE: Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust was £1.3m in deficit by the end of November, with a sharp deterioration in its spending against target.

Expenditure on pay is now more than £1m ahead of plan in the year to date, with spending on temporary staff of £977,000 in November - nearly 10 per cent of the total pay bill.

And while income in the month was better than expected, the trust may be overperforming. “Discussions with our main commissioners will be required in January to agree the level of overperformance so that this may be reflected in our year end forecast,” the finance report said.
