FINANCE: Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation Trust beat its cost improvement plan for 2011-12 after receiving more income than expected.

Income exceeded plan in month by £800,000 in March, linked to extra work from commissioners in Wales.

Board papers for April said this “recovered the [£100,000 in year] shortfall of our Shropshire contract”.

The report added: “We ended the year having earned an additional £1.4m from our clinical activity than originally planned.”

The trust reported cost savings totalling £3.1m, at the end of 2011-12, £300,000 better than planned.
