PERFORMANCE: Managers at a Midlands hospital which had its application for foundation trust status deferred for the second time following CQC concerns, have said work has been done to improve.
The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital in the city, had its bid for FT status deferred last month after a CQC inspection found the trust was not meeting essential standards.
Its inspection was prompted by concerns over the number of never events at the hospital.
Chair of the trust Barry Picken has resigned in the wake of Monitor’s decision.
A previous attempt to gain FT status failed in 2011 after the CQC found care “was not always safe” at the trust.
Chief executive David Loughton has said the CQC report had been a “good thing” for the trust.
He told the trust board: “There was concern about the number of never events we’ve had and we have done a great deal of work in that area.
“There are a couple of areas where we did learn things about culture and behaviour.”
Chief nursing officer Cheryl Etches has previously said improvements had been made following the CQC inspection.
