The Health and Safety Executive has issued an improvement notice to NHS Wiltshire.

The primary care trust breached rules by not carrying out a full asbestos survey before beginning renovation work at Eldene Health Centre on behalf of NHS Swindon.

The Health and Safety Executive also served NHS Swindon with an improvement notice.

A survey conducted last November did not comply with new guidance issued at the end of January 2010 requiring more detailed reports.

Once the breach had been spotted by an HSE inspector, a full survey was carried out and found no asbestos risk.

An NHS Wiltshire spokesperson said: “Action has already been undertaken to comply with the new rules and we see no problems in delivering the report to the HSE. No patients or public were put at risk and no asbestos was found in the building.”
