The 14 unions that make up the NHS Staff Council staff side have blasted a 1.5 per cent pay rise the Department of Health is predicted to propose.

In a joint press conference the unions outlined their case for a 'decent' pay rise based on their evidence to the independent pay review body, which makes recommendations to the government on the level of pay awards for NHS workers.

Amicus Health said attempts to cap pay rises at 2 per cent were unacceptable and is also calling for a 35-hour week for health service staff.
