University College Hospitals London Foundation Trust is set to be the second trust to pick Epic as its electronic patient record supplier.

The London trust has chosen the US firm as its preferred provider over Cerner and Intersystems, and will now be working with it to produce a full business case.

HSJ understands the trust hopes to submit its business case early next year.

If UCLH does go ahead it will be the second trust in the country to use Epic, following Cambridge University Hospitals FT, which commissioned the system in 2014.

In July 2015, HSJ reported that Monitor was set to look in to the implementation of Epic at CUH following concerns that problematic implementation of the system had effected the trust’s finances.

A spokesman at UCLH said: “Following a rigorous procurement process, we have identified Epic as the preferred bidder and will work together to develop a full business case to present to our board early next year.

“The board will assess if the proposal is affordable and the right investment for our digital and interoperability needs.”
