STRUCTURE: The University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust opened a new urgent care centre on December 7.

The trust and commissioners have worked together to open the centre, staffed from noon to 10pm, seven days a week, and the commissioners anticipate that half of ambulatory patients arriving at A&E will be treatable in the UCC.

A report to UCLH’s board said: “The trust has been commissioned to undertake a six-month pilot with local GPs from Haverstock Healthcare, who are already
providing a similar service at the Royal Free Hospital.

“Following considerable discussion over the course of several meetings about the operational policy, patient pathways, governance arrangements and financial implications.”
