WORKFORCE: A major acute trust on the south coast has hired a new chief executive.

University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust has appointed Fiona Dalton to the top job, following the departure of previous chief Mark Hackett in April.

Ms Dalton was the trust’s director of strategy and business development between 2004 and 2008, but most recently served as deputy chief executive and chief operating officer at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children Foundation Trust.

Her time at Great Ormond Street included a four-month spell as interim chief executive following the departure of Jane Collins.

Trust chair John Trewby said: “Fiona was the outstanding candidate from a strong field of applicants after a rigorous selection process and I am delighted to welcome her back to UHS after a successful spell at Great Ormond Street.”

“I believe her inspirational leadership, experience, values and strategic skills will complement the highly experienced management team to lead the trust forward to the next level of improved service for our patients.”

She will take up her post in November.

Outgoing chief Mr Hackett steered the hospital trust to foundation status during a nine year stint at the trust. He left to take over at University Hospital North Staffordshire Trust, which is set to expand if proposals to dissolve neighbouring Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust are realised.
