COMMERCIAL: Southampton Univeristy Hospitals is to spend £212,527 on an upgrade of the car park barrier system at Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital.

The contract was won by Designa UK Ltd and was one of three single tender actions reported to the recent board meeting by trust chief executive Mark Hackett.

The board was also told about contracts for supplies and services worth more than £300,000.

The trust made savings of £53,237 on its two year contract for supply of clotting and coagulation factors for pathology which ends in Macrh 2012. The £1,839,071 contract was split between Baxter Healthcare (£629,960); Pfizer Ltd & Alliance Healthcare (£516,135); Novo Nordisk Ltd (£599,631); and Bayer PLC (£93,345).

Other contracts reported to the board include contracts for radiology equipment maintenance and electrophysiology consumables for cardiothoracic.
