PERFORMANCE: Risk summits have been held about three south west NHS organisations between October 2012 and 1 May this year.
Summits were held at University Hospitals Bristol Foundation Trust on 29 October, at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust on 29 November and at Avon and Wiltshire Partnership Trust on 7 March.
Risk summits aim to address potential or actual service quality problems which may mean providers are failing to meet the essential standards of quality and patient safety. They bring together represmnetatives from relevant local healthcare organisations as well as commissioners and regulators.
The summit at UHBristol was held at the time of a publication of a CQC report criticising management for failing to address long running issues with staffing on one of the trust’s children’s wards. The Cornwall summit was around the same time as the trust wrote to more than 1,500 women due to concerns about the competence of a consultant gynaecologist working at the trust. The Avon and Wiltshire summit followed a warning notice from the CQC over staffing levels at the mental health trust’s Fromeside unit the previous month.
