FINANCE: University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire Trust reported an in-year deficit of £13m in August, according to board documents.
The figure, £1m worse than planned, was largely due to underperformance against referral to treatment and the 62 day cancer waiting targets.
Papers presented to the trust’s board said discussions are underway with Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group to transfer some elective activity to independent providers in order to clear the provider’s referral to treatment backlog.
Activity in general surgery, cardiology and trauma and orthopaedics faces being transferred to independent providers.
The trust last year recorded and income of £550m.
