PERFORMANCE: Burton Hospitals Foundation Trust continues to see incidents of retained cannulas in patients, according to the latest performance report from East Staffordshire CCG.

Classed as a locally-avoidable event, the trust has reported two incidents of retained cannulas in the latest month up to March.

A report by the CCG said the incidents were “of concern, as despite the continued in-depth focus on these, they continue to occur.”

It added: “There are no discernible patterns in terms of repeat offending wards / areas; they are spread throughout the trust. This time, one each reported in EAU and CDU.”
