PERFORMANCE: Performance targets in a number of areas remain of concern to University Hospitals of Leicester Trust’s commissioners.

There are notably; 18 weeks referral to treatment (RTT), cancer waiting times and cancelled operations.

Cancer waiting times (62 day standard) continue to under-perform in large part, but not exclusively, due to endoscopy waits. Endoscopy waits in excess of 6 weeks are also compromising the proposed start date for bowel cancer age extension in April 2012, as three clear months of compliance with the six week diagnostic endoscopy standard must be demonstrated to allow this to happen.

These concerns were likely to be raised in a First Exception Notice.

The UHL financial position and associated Cost Improvement Programme is being closely monitored in terms of risk reconciliation.

A number of areas are currently rated red and there has been a substantial increase in the number of incidents relating to staffing levels during October and November 2011.
