PERFORMANCE: Commissioners have signalled an intention to use contractual penalties against University Hospitals of Leicester Trust for long elective waits.
Ultimately this could result in up to 2 per cent of the monthly contract value being withheld for each month until the remedial action plan is agreed.
There is a small but significant number of patients waiting over 26 weeks for their elective stage of treatment, which UHL expect will take until January 2012 to resolve completely.
he problem is confined to general surgery, as urology performance has largely recovered.
A contract query was raised and UHL’s remedial action plan received on 19 September 2011.
The action plan was discussed at the contract performance Meeting on 27 September 2011 but the cluster and CCG representatives were not fully assured by the plan and therefore did not accept it, requesting further detail to be provided.
Subsequent iterations of the plan still do not give adequate reassurance that UHL can remove the backlog of long waits.
