RESEARCH: The charity Bowel Cancer West has allocated nearly £5,000 to two research projects, one of which will be led by Matt Wiggins, a research fellow within the upper gastrointestinal surgery team at Plymouth Hospitals Trust.
A report to Plymouth’s board said both projects are “part of the comprehensive high quality clinical research program carried out at the Plymouth site of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, with great potential to improve the care of patients with bowel cancer both in the region and nationally.”
Bowel Cancer West is a charity which was set up by colorectal consultant Mark Coleman in 2010, with other directors who are consultants at Derriford
Hospital including Gary Minto, Francis Daniel and Andy Latchford.
Their aim is to support education into training and research, and they hope to encourage members of staff and the public to support them with future fundraising.
