PERFORMANCE: NHS providers in Plymouth scored in the top 20 per cent in the country in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.

Overall 90 per cent of the 817 respondents who were treated at Plymouth Hospitals Trust rated their care from the NHS excellent or very good.

The hospital trust also scored highly on patients feeling involved in decisions about their care and hospital staff giving information about support groups.

However, patients scored GPs in the lowest 20 per cent on all three measures they were asked about, including seeing their GP only once or twice before being told they had to go to hospital and whether they felt they were seen soon enough.

Patients treated at Plymouth Hospitals Trust also complained GPs were not given enough information about their condition and treatment however they were in the top performing fifth for thinking staff at their GP practice had done everything they could to support them.
