STRUCTURE: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust has been selected as the host organisation for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery.
Under previous government policy, NHS South East Coast was required to separate its commissioning and provider roles in postgraduate medical and dental education.
As a result in May 2010 it sought expressions of interest from other NHS bodies in the region to take over the running of the deanery.
Five trusts expressed interest, three of which withdrew from the process in the autumn 2010. This left two contenders: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust and East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust.
An SHA Panel met on 14 December 2010 to consider and evaluate the proposals. It recommended to the SHA board that Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust be selected as the preferred host organisation for the deanery.
