PERFORMANCE: Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust has begun a review of why its accident and emergency department has more complaints than other parts of the organisation.

According to the minutes of its meeting in January, the trust’s board highlighted the “relatively high number of complaints” about the accident and emergency service, the “cause for which was currently unknown”.

“This was being reviewed by Dr Amanda Wellesley, consultant in emergency medicine and clinical director for emergency care, and it was agreed to ask Dr Wellesley to attend the Board to explain the work being undertaken,” the papers noted.
