STRUCTURE: Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust’s trust application for foundation status was approved at the end of last month by its strategic health authority.

The latest chief executive’s report to the trust board said: “It was noted by the board that, following a board to board meeting on 27 April 2011, the board of South East Coast strategic health authority had fully supported the trust’s foundation trust application for its submission to the secretary of state for health.”

It added: “The board was briefed that the next stage in the process is two month’s scrutiny by the Department of Health before the final submission to the Monitor.”
