STRUCTURE: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust has received Department of Health approval for major redevelopment plans.
In his last weekly message to staff before taking up his new role with Public Health England, Brighton and Sussex chief executive Duncan Selbie announced that the trust had received the Secretary of State’s approval for its 3Ts Outline Business Case.
The £420m plan will see the trust’s ageing buildings replaced, the creation of a major trauma and neuroscience centre, and further development of cancer services and the trust’s new medical school.
Planning permission was given by the local council in January and the outline business case was approved by strategic health authority NHS South of England in March. The only barrier remaining to the project is the Treasury.
Mr Selbie said: “Today is a watershed moment for BSUH and one which opens the door to the next phase of what promises to be the brightest of futures.”
