PERFORMANCE: Women in the Mildenhall area are to benefit from an improved mobile breast screening unit fitted with new digital imaging technology.
This will enable the mammographer to check immediately if the image is good quality and should reduce the number of women called to West Suffolk Hospital for repeat imaging. It also allows staff to screen women with breast implants who previously had to travel to the hospital.
The mobile unit is part of a £1.2m investment in new mammography machines by West Suffolk Hospital Foundation Trust, which opened a new digital breast imaging unit in March 2012.
It is now able to call women for screening at an earlier age, as it has increased screening capacity.
