SERVICES: West Suffolk Hospital has invested £125,000 in new equipment which improve cataract surgery.
The phacoemulsification machines are the first of their kind in a hospital in the UK. They support injectable pre-loaded lens implants, which minimise the risk of infection.
The new approach should also encourage quicker healing. Robert Lamb, consultant ophthalmologist at the Eye Treatment Centre, said: “This is an excellent investment by the trust which will ensure our patients can continue to access the very best treatment. We are pleased that we have been able to work with Zeiss to provide this state-of-the-art technology.”
