WORKFORCE: West Sussex County Council cabinet member Michael Brown has been elected as chair of the West Sussex Joint Commissioning Board.

The board will provide the overall direction for the joint commissioning of services provided via the area’s new Joint Commissioning Unit.

The unit, currently being set up, formalises joint commissioning arrangements between the council and NHS West Sussex, following several years of partnership working and joint planning of health and social care services.

Mr Brown is the County Council’s cabinet member for finance and resources. Mr Brown said: “Setting up the unit means we can build on our already strong partnership with our NHS colleagues.”

Norman Robson from NHS West Sussex has been elected vice-chair of the board.

He said: “For years we have worked closely together, the NHS and the local authority, but now our combined teams have the opportunity to share their expertise and knowledge and work side-by-side to make sure that joined up and appropriate services are available for the people that need them.”
