PERFORMANCE: Around 10,000 people have given up smoking using NHS smoking cessation services in Sussex, according to the county’s primary care trusts.
A statement from the Sussex PCT cluster said that, in the year to March 2011, almost 10,000 people successfully quit smoking across Sussex with support from local NHS Stop Smoking services.
In West Sussex, 4,304 people successfully stopped smoking, equivalent to 11 smokers a day. This compares to 1,878 in Brighton and Hove and 3,332 in East Sussex.
Anna Kirk, tobacco control lead on behalf of NHS Sussex, said: “Everyone involved in our NHS Stop Smoking services have done a remarkable job supporting the hundreds of people who have wanted to go smokefree.”
