PERFORMANCE: Pharmacists are due to be introduced into the accident and emergency department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital to provide better support for patients.
The newly appointed pharmacists will work alongside A&E nurses, doctors and consultants and are due to begin work from October 1.
The trust is hoping the initiative will mean more medication errors are spotted and improve the speed medicines are supplied and information passed to GPs to reduce delays for patients.
It also means for patients admitted to a hospital ward, the pharmacist can assess what they have been taking at the point of admission and potentially prevent delays in patients receiving essential treatment and delays on discharge.
The new development has been funded by the NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group in collaboration with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust.
