STRUCTURE: Around 2,000 people have taken part in a protest against planned changes to acute services in Worcestershire.

On 4 August protesters gathered in Redditch town centre for a rally against the changes which will affect accident and emergency and the maternity department at the Alexandra Hospital.

The rally was organised by the Save the Alex campaign group which is promising more public protests in coming months.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust is planning to hold a formal consultation about the proposals in November with a final decision expected early next year.

The shake-up is aimed at examining acute services at the county’s three main hospitals in Redditch, Worcester and Kidderminster.

The trust needs to save £15 million this financial year and £50 million over the next three years.
