PERFORMANCE: Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust has submitted an action plan to NHS West Midlands to address poor performance against stroke and TIA indicators.

A range of measures had been put in place but failed to deliver sufficient improvements in 2010-11. Performance has improved in April and May with unvalidated data for April showing performance of 80 per cent against the stroke unit target.

At the West Mercia cluster review held on 9 June, the cluster chief executive gave a commitment to establish a Herefordshire and Worcestershire Stroke Service that would look to provide a sustainable service for the counties, given that they have struggled both to meet the required levels of performance and to recruit to senior medical posts.
