STRUCTURE: Worcestershire Health and Care Trust has held its inaugural board meeting.

The trust is a merger of Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership Trust and some of NHS Worcestershire’s provider services, and was created as a result of the transforming community services programme.

NHS Worcestershire agreed the preferred option for all services (except the county wide breast screening service, surgical services at Tenbury and Evesham Community Hospitals and five specialist nursing services which went to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust) would be the creation of a new community and mental health trust to deliver these services as well as services currently provided by Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership Trust.

The creation of the new organisation, which meant the mental health trust had to be dissolved, was due to be set up by 1 April 2011. However this was deferred until 1 July so a due diligence exercise could be completed.

Sarah Dugan, formerly chief executive of NHS Dudley, is heading up the new organisation.

NHS West Midlands and the Department of Health have both signed off the trust’s tripartite formal agreement, setting out how it plans to achieve foundation trust status.
