The chief executive of University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust has been made a dame in the new year’s honours list.

Dame Julie Moore, a former nurse and chair of the NHS Future Forum’s education workstream was honoured alongside Stephen Bloom, clinical director of pathology and therapy services at Imperial College Healthcare Trust and the Royal Free’s head of medicine Mark Pepys, who both received knighthoods.

Professor Hilary Chapman, chief nurse and operating officer at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, was given a CBE.

There were OBEs for Chris Sharratt, the former chief executive of Sheffield Children’s Foundation Trust, NHS North East medical director and public health lead Stephen Singleton and Richard Howe, former executive director of estates and facilities at Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

Leading advocates of clinical commissioning James Kingsland and Paul Zollinger-Read were among eight GPs honoured in the 2012 list.

Dr Zollinger-Read, director of GP commissioning at NHS East of England and former NHS Cambridgeshire chief executive, has been made a CBE. Dr Kingsland, president of the National Association of Primary Care and the DH’s national clinical commissioning network lead, has been given an OBE.

Meanwyile, NHS Liverpool chair Gideon Ben-Tovim became an OBE and former NHS Kingston chair Neslyn Watson-Druée a CBE.

At the Department of Health, director of financial planning and allocations Richard Murray was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. NHS Equality Team senior team leader Raymond Warburton and National NHS Sustainability Unit director David Pencheon both received OBEs.

Overall, 7 per cent of the 2012 honours were given for services relating to health. See below for a full list:
