The chair of Northumberland care trust is leaving the post after nearly five years.

Richard Houlden, also previously a non-executive director of Northumberland Health Authority, said: “It has been great to be part of the team at Northumberland care trust and I feel I am stepping down at a time when the organisation is in a much stronger financial position than it has been for several years and can now look forward to concentrating on further improvements in the care it provides for local people.”

Trust chief executive Chris Reed said: “We hope that Richard will have a long, happy and healthy retirement and thank him for his commitment to the improvement in NHS services during more than a decade of involvement as a non-executive director in Northumberland.

“He has chaired the care trust through some difficult times and can retire knowing that the organisation is in a stronger position than for several years and that high quality services are being provided for people across the county.”
