A former commissioning support unit boss has been appointed NHS England’s regional director for the south, HSJ has learned.
Andrew Ridley will join NHS England next month, according to an internal announcement circulated this week.
Mr Ridley established and ran North East London CSU, but has recently spent several months on secondment to NHS England, where he acted as programme director for the better care fund, leading a cross-departmental task force.
His team was responsible for designing and implementing a robust assurance programme for the fund, after concerns emerged over the original governance arrangements last spring.
Mr Ridley will continue to oversee the better care fund as it is implemented over the coming months.
Prior to setting up North East London CSU, Mr Ridley had a number of senior positions in NHS Tower Hamlets, including acting chief executive and director of primary care.
He also formerly worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust, and the Terence Higgins Trust.
