A Yorkshire hospital has started its search for a new medical director after announcing the current director will retire in 2010.

The retirement of Dr Emyr Jones was announced at September’s meeting of the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital Trust’s board of directors, with March of next year being his final month.

Chief executive Nigel Clifton praised Dr Jones’ contribution, saying: “He has served his patients with great distinction for 22 years. Emyr has made an outstanding contribution to improved care, education, and training.”

With the search on to find a replacement, Mr Clifton said: “We now seek a visionary and dynamic medical director,” adding the role would give an individual responsibility over the development of clinical strategy, clinical governance, patient service standards, clinical performance, research and development, and the medical workforce.

The post is part-time, and the director would maintain a limited medical practice. The closing date for applications is 26 October 2009.
