Former BBC director general Greg Dyke has been named alongside an eclectic list of figures on the national leadership council for the NHS.
Its five patrons are Mr Dyke; former navy commander-in-chief Vice Admiral Sir Adrian Johns; former John Lewis Partnership chair Sir Stuart Hampson; author Daniel Goleman; and US hospital chief Gary Kaplan.
Mr Dyke said he looked forward to the council’s work.
The council, chaired by NHS chief executive David Nicholson, will have 25 core members and 14 fellows. Five members will act as champions for areas identified as priorities by the council:
- Clinical leadership - Heart of England foundation trust chief executive Mark Goldman.
- Board development - NHS West Midlands chair Elisabeth Buggins.
- Top leaders - NHS East Midlands chief executive Barbara Hakin.
- Inclusion - Derby City primary care trust chief executive Prem Singh.
- Emerging leaders - Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals foundation trust chief executive Julian Hartley.
