- Ex-NHSI director to become acute trust chief
- Adam Sewell-Jones takes over from retiring East and North Herts CEO
A former NHS Improvement director is to become an acute trust chief executive at the end of this year.
Adam Sewell-Jones is currently site chief of Newham Hospital, which is part of Barts Health Trust. He will step down in December to take over at East and North Hertfordshire Trust.
Nick Carver is retiring from his position as CEO of ENHT after nearly 20 years.
Mr Sewell-Jones was previously a director of provider sustainability at Monitor, then NHS Improvement’s director of improvement. He was made redundant — receiving between £250,000 and £300,000 — when NHSI’s structure was combined with NHS England.
Prior to his regulator roles, he spent eight years at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust, three of which were as its deputy chief executive.
He said: “I am thrilled to have been offered the role as chief executive of East and North Hertfordshire Trust and am looking forward to working with our staff, service users and partners to deliver high-quality care to our communities.”
Dame Alwen Williams, group CEO of Barts Health Trust, said Mr Sewell-Jones had been a “great asset” during his time at the trust and had led Newham Hospital “brilliantly under extremely difficult circumstances”.
Mr Sewell-Jones’ departure comes as Jacqui Smith, who served as home secretary under the last Labour government, was appointed chair of both Barts Health Trust and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust.
- Meanwhile, Tracy Dowling has announced she is retiring as chief executive of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust. Ms Dowling will leave the role after more than four years in November and 38 years in the NHS. The FT is recruiting a replacement.
