Peter Rubin is to take over from Graeme Catto as chair of the General Medical Council.

Professor Rubin is professor of therapeutics and honorary consultant physician at Nottingham University Hospitals trust.

He chaired the GMC’s education committee and the post graduate medical education and training board until last year.

Professor Rubin said the GMC faced a “challenging and exciting” future.

He takes up his new post on 20 April.
