Joint chief executive of NHS Swindon and director of adult social care services at Swindon borough council Caroline Fowles has died.
Ms Fowles was recently diagnosed with cancer and had been receiving treatment near her home in Gloucester.
She worked in the NHS for 31 years, taking on her most recent role as joint chief executive of NHS Swindon and director of adult social care services at Swindon borough council in 2006.
NHS Swindon chair Michelle Howard said: “Caroline was the inspirational leader of NHS Swindon for over three years.
“Our thoughts are with Caroline’s husband Mike, family and friends at this sad time.”
NHS South West chief executive Sir Ian Carruthers said: “Caroline Fowles was an outstanding leader and chief executive, and also a wonderful human being. She will be greatly missed by us all.”
