A former local authority chief has been appointed chair of Cornwall’s sustainability and transformation partnership.
John Govett joins the STP after leading the Money and Pensions Service for under a year. He left unexpectedly when his family decided to relocate to the south west.
Mr Govett has spent the last seven years as a non-executive on the board of Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust, some of it as acting chair. Other previous posts include Surrey County Council managing director and P&O Ferries commercial board director.
He replaces Cornwall Council chief executive Kate Kennally as the STP chair.
Mr Govett said: “As independent chair, my focus will be on promoting system-working and ensuring that we develop and deliver our key objectives with the money we have to spend; through collaborative working, agreeing system priorities and providing strategic clarity while enabling innovation and change locally.”
Among the STP’s challenges are getting acute provider Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust out of special measures, and sorting out long-standing financial difficulties at Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group.
