1999 Robert Francis QC acts as counsel for United Bristol Healthcare Trust chief executive Dr John Roylance after he is struck off by the GMC, following the Bristol babies heart scandal. Mr Francis stresses Dr Roylance was not criticised for his work as a practising doctor, but as a manager.
October 2007 Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust chief executive Rose Gibb stands down, days before a report into a C difficile outbreak. Health secretary Alan Johnson blocks severance payment of £175,000 above the £75,000 Ms Gibb is contractually owed. She appeals.
March 2009 Healthcare Commission report on Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust condemns “appalling” care.
April 2009 Rose Gibb loses appeal.
May 2009 Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust chief executive Martin Yeates quits. He does not attend inquiry hearings on grounds of ill health.
