- Gateshead Health Foundation Trust appoints Yvonne Ormston
- Ms Ormston joins from North East Ambulance Service FT
- She previously worked for Gateshead Health FT as director of strategy
Gateshead Health Foundation Trust has announced a permanent replacement for the chief executive it sacked in September.
Yvonne Ormston will join the small trust after four years as chief executive of the North East Ambulance Service FT.
She previously worked for the Gateshead FT as director of strategy between 2005 and 2014, and has more than 30 years of experience in the NHS.
The trust’s former chief executive Ian Renwick was sacked last September after a disciplinary hearing at the £264m turnover trust. The reasons for this remain unclear.
He was paid salary and fees of between £265,000 and £270,000 in 2017-18, much higher than the average chief executive salary. The trust advertised the new chief executive role with an indicative salary of between £182,500 and £202,500, at least £62,500 less than Mr Renwick was apparently paid.
HSJ revealed earlier this year that Mr Renwick and a number of other district general hospital chief executives in the north east were paid salaries above many chief executives of teaching hospitals and significantly above district general hospital chief executives in other parts of the country.
