PERFORMANCE: Activity at Yeovil District Hospital Foundation Trust is behind plan by an average of 3 per cent.

At 8.7 per cent behind plan, outpatient procedures saw the biggest variance against plan followed by elective day cases (-7.6 per cent) and GP referrals (6 per cent).

Only emergency admissions were above plan, by 0.9 per cent. A report to November’s board said the payment by results income was £740,000 below plan, most of which was accounted for by financial penalties for patients readmitted within 30 days.

The report states: “This year’s contract has a target built into it that the value of re-admissions will be circa £500,000. For the year to date, the actual value of readmissions is currently calculated at £850,000.

“This represents a variance of £600,000 on the year to date plan. If re-admissions were at the target level, the contact would be broadly break even.”
