STRUCTURE: Yeovil District Hospital Foundation Trust has appointed a new chief executive with experience of running community services as it shifts its focus to delivery of an integrated range of services.
Paul Mears is currently chief operating officer at South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Torbay Hospital. Before that he was director of operations at Torbay Care Trust and head of community services at Torbay Primary Care Trust.
Yeovil chairman Peter Wyman said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Paul whose experience in community based health and social care will be invaluable to Yeovil District Hospital at a time when we are aiming to take more of our services out into the community.”
Management is in the process of developing plans for a “health campus” on trust land that is to become vacant in August 2012. The vision is for a joint venture with a private sector partner that would provide “integrated healthcare” and a revenue stream for the trust.
Discussions have taken place with Circle but the board decided not to pursue a partnership at this stage.
Yeovil, which has a turnover of £105m, is talking to Taunton and Somerset Foundation Trust about possibly sharing back office functions.
Mr Mears will replace Gavin Boyle who is joining Chesterfield Royal Hospital Foundation Trust.
