WINNER: Hertfordshire Partnership University Foundation Trust – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, Home Treatment Team

Sponsored by

Practicus

The home treatment team aims to keep young people with complex mental health services out of hospital or in a hospital bed for the minimum time necessary.

Since it was set up, the average length of stay has dropped by 42 per cent and only youngsters requiring specialist beds not available in Hertfordshire have been placed out of area.

The team will visit up to three times a day to ensure the young person can be kept at home safely but also encourages resilience and control over their own lives.

The team has managed the full planned caseload, despite initial high vacancy rates, and now hopes to increase the number it manages.
