The “friends and family” test is a “net promoter” score trialled in NHS MIdlands and East and due to start in the rest of the country next April.

Patients are asked: “How likely is it that you would recommend this service to friends and family?”, with scores determined by the number of patients unlikely to recommend a trust subtracted from the number of patients who would recommend it, to calculate a score ranging from -100 to 100.

Hinchingbrooke’s score has fallen from 93 in April to 78 in July, information from the cluster reveals.

This puts it in joint eighth place with Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust, out of 46 trusts.
