Exclusive: Interactive commissioning system map

HSJ has launched the first comprehensive interactive map of the reformed NHS commissioning system, showing critical details about the new organisations, including their leaders, performance, budgets and size.

CCG map screengrab

It follows the authorisation of the first 34 clinical commissioning groups to take on their powers this week.

Our map shows the geography of the new NHS commissioning system from April 2013 including CCGs, commissioning support units, and the NHS Commissioning Board’s local area teams.

It also includes critical details such the names of their leaders, performance, how many conditions they have on their authorisation, and the size of their population and budget.

  • Thanks this is really useful. Is there anywhere we can see the conditions that have been imposed on authorised CCGs (rather than just the number of them)?

Hi Nicky. Apologies for the delay in replying - you can see that information on conditions here: http://www.commissioningboard.nhs.uk/files/2012/12/ccg-w1-outcome.pdf

  • Where did you get the list of Wave 2, 3 & 4 CCGs?

Not sure your CSS boundaries are quite right - they are now called Commissioning Support Units. As far as I am aware Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Bath, Wiltshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Luton & Bedfordshire and Cambridge & Peterborough have not defined their CSUs. Also West Yorkshire didn't include Airedale, Wharfedale & Craven last time I looked.

I don't think there have been any lookups provided for LATs (now called Area Teams) but the maps I saw published by NHS CB suggested they follow the Cumbria LA boundary rather than the CCG.

Thanks Diane. There is a glitch with the CSUs in the South West, and we already have CCGs for Cornwall, Devon and Cambs&Peterborough marked with no CSU.

I'm not sure you are correct about some of the others - eg see http://www.hsj.co.uk/hsj-local/pcts/shropshire-county-pct/west-mercia-ccgs-choose-new-support-providers/5046935.article

I will check though, interested to hear if that has changed.

    Thanks
    Dave
