The above is a very weak form of coaching and far from the only model in use. When coaching, I (and others who are like-minded in this respect) see art of posing the challenge as vital in order for the client to retain a balanced perspective. It is absolutely possible to lay a challenge in a supportive way if you have the skills and experience to do this effectively, ie the two principles are not mutually exclusive.
