PERFORMANCE: Aintree University Hospitals had higher than expected mortality in both of the last two calendar years, according to a new summary hospital level mortality indicator (SHMI) report.
The latest “outlier report” from the Health and Social Care Information Centre places Aintree among five other trusts that were “repeat outliers” for having higher than expected mortality in both 2011 and 2012.
Four of the others had been identified as repeat outliers in the previous edition of the report; East and North Hertfordshire Trust and Aintree were the only two that had not.
Including Aintree, three of the six repeat outlier trusts were based in the North West. The other two north western providers were Tameside Hospital FT and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals FT.
